April 2008

Here are some bouquet portraits, for your enjoyment. :) Continuing with tradition, more blabbing about how oozing-ly talented Bridget is. I love this floral design because it has Kale in it (the cabbage stuff). That, and the Snapdragons in it flailed around like tentacles when you walked with it.

Another wedding comrade that I’ve had the pleasure of working with recently is Janay with Janay-A Handmade Designs. Janay designs and creates beautiful custom, handmade wedding dresses here in Kansas City. I don’t think I’ve seen a dress design yet that I wouldn’t love to wear if I were getting married. Heck, I’m going to see if I can just go to her place and prance around in them for fun someday, should I be feeling particularly girly. All floral design was provided by Bridget Kelly with Ornamental Petal

I also love the models that Janay chooses to work with as they aren’t the stereotypical bride that you might find in your local bridal magazine. However, they were all so beautiful! This photo shoot was actually spur-of-the-moment. (I think I still had some food in my mouth…) and lasted about a minute as they had to snag some lunch and get inside as it was a bit brisk out. However, I love the spontaneity behind it as I live on that sort of thing.

Last weekend we attended Karen Looney’s event ‘Beyond the Honeymoon’ both as vendors and participants. Having a bit more ‘behind the scenes’ action than most attendees, we were involved in revamping her identity and branding for the event as well as her business Live in Love.

Karen is a Relationship and Life Coach with tons of energy and great advice. She’s been involved in coaching successful marriages on an individual and class basis for quite a while. This event on April 27th was a first as it was recorded for an upcoming DVD release. Check out her site Live in Love to see updates and skim the surface of the information she has to offer.

Live in Love’s approach is good for happy couples that may have things going smoothly, but who are savvy enough to prep their marriage for the long haul. It’s not the standard marriage class that lectures you about what you can’t and aren’t supposed to do. It encourages couples to find what fits their needs and celebrating how beautiful your partner is. I was laughing and crying that day and was honored to be asked to be a vendor and get to display our work during the lunch. (Check out some of the images from her shoot, including her dog Tulip, who was pretty terrified of the sound of the camera.)

On related notes, check out our posts (just after this one) on Janay-A Handmade Designs (Including Eclectic Handmade Wedding Dresses) and Ornamental Petal’s Personal Flower shots.

This event was held out at Unity Village in Lee’s Summit. It had a very mediterranean feel to it, kind of hard to find in Missouri. It was quite beautiful and would be a great place to hold a wedding as there were all kinds of neat architectural details and courtyards to play in. The food was also great and the chef there seems quite talented. (Said he’s done Eastern Indian to Vegan weddings, so they really like to customize.)
