May 2008

If anyone can’t believe it’s time for our fifth year anniversary, it’s us. But we chose to have it be an inclusive celebration. (And I got to make a spiffy logo for it!) We’re not really ones to always have a nice dinner out, being the little non-conformists that we lean towards being. ;-) So if you’d like to stop by, we live in South Hyde Park. You can check out our house, play bocce ball, giant frisbee, and stand around our fire pit. Shoot us an email to get an official e-vite complete with directions.

Not that we’ve had our cameras locked in away in a cage lately, we’ve just been crazily involved with life outside el blog. Though finishing up our 100 year old house (see shortly arriving post as it’s on the market!) has been absorbing our time in mass quantities. But for now, we will leave you with a taste of an engagement session that involved, climbing, running, playing in the grass, and carrying a funky chair we found on bulk pick-up day. (Just FYI: We did check to make sure it didn’t smell weird.)

Loose Park here in Kansas City is a popular place on a beautiful May weekend. (There was even a wedding going on in the Rose Garden.) We were able to snag some more secluded areas to capture some fun shots with Sherrie and James. (They’ll be getting married at the end of July at Powell Gardens this summer.) It was like we were meeting up with friends that we’ve known since college, and just played until the impending sunset ended our photography fun.

Sherrie and James were so relaxed and natural in-front of the camera, and even tolerated sitting on that questionable chair into the middle of the park. They met at a 10K run last year and the orange shirts were the momento from that day. We’re so glad we got to spend part of our evening with this incredible, down-to-earth couple. We can hardly wait until July!! (Although, I don’t think the weather will be as cool as it was for their engagements…)

*above* (I adore this image from Joel! It’s so fun and just gives me goosebumps every time I look at it!)

Also, just for good times, here are some that are completely, unadulterated. This is to show how beautifully honest images directly out of the camera, without even any color or brightness adjusting, still are. We hope you enjoy!

Thought I would share our latest magazine ad in the Perfect Wedding Guide. I think designing our own materials is always the hardest. When we have an entire field to roam around, it’s a little overwhelming. What might be even more difficult, is smushing in all our informational tastiness into a 3″x 3″ square. With this ad, we actually decided to go sans bride and groom; rarely practiced in the wedding-ville. Instead, we focused on showing that we capture whatever takes place, and those people closest to the bride and groom. This is the mother of the bride and her brother, if I have it right.
